The Pontificia Universidad Católica de Valparaíso (PUCV) is one of Chile’s most prestigious and traditional academic institutions. Founded in 1928, it is approaching its centennial and stands proudly in the heart of Valparaíso, a city declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site for its cultural and architectural significance.

The congress will take place on the university’s central campus, surrounded by emblematic buildings, vibrant academic life, and the historic character of Valparaíso. The venue includes modern auditoriums, breakout rooms, and social areas within walking distance from the coast.

Valparaíso is a unique coastal city known for its colorful hills, street art, history, and bohemian spirit. Its picturesque staircases, ascensores (funiculars), and vibrant port make it one of the cultural capitals of Chile.

Just 10 minutes away lies Viña del Mar, known for its beautiful beaches, gardens, and modern infrastructure. Both cities offer a blend of culture, science, gastronomy, and nature—making the congress experience not only academic but also personally enriching.

Travel Information

By Air

International and national arrivals should be made via Arturo Merino Benítez International Airport (SCL), located in Santiago, the capital of Chile. The airport is approximately 110 km (70 miles) from Valparaíso and is well connected via:

  • Airport shuttles and shared vans.
  • Intercity buses (from terminals Alameda or Pajaritos in Santiago).
  • Private car or taxi (approx. 1.5-hour drive).

SCL also provides connections to major cities within Chile for attendees traveling from other regions.

By Land

Valparaíso and Viña del Mar have two major bus terminals (Rodoviarios) that receive domestic and international buses, including routes from Argentina. There is frequent service from major Chilean cities such as Santiago, Concepción, La Serena, and more.

  • Rodoviario Valparaíso: centrally located, near the venue.
  • Rodoviario Viña del Mar: accessible by local transport or taxi.

By Car

The Ruta 68 is the main highway that connects Santiago with Valparaíso and Viña del Mar, offering a scenic 1.5-hour drive through the valleys of central Chile.

Local Transportation

Public transport in Valparaíso includes buses (micros), colectivos (shared taxis), and the Merval metro system that connects Valparaíso and Viña del Mar.

  • Payment can be made with cash or Merval transport card.
  • Taxis and ride-hailing apps like Uber, DiDi, and Cabify are also widely available.

  • Currency: Chilean Peso (CLP). ATMs are widely available and international credit/debit cards are accepted in most establishments.
  • Electricity: 220V / 50Hz. Plug types C and L are standard in Chile.
  • Language: The official language is Spanish, but many people in tourism and academia speak English.
